Nirmal Paintings are ethnic and are original handmade paintings. The origin of Nirmal art dates back to 14th Century. Later, the Nawabs of Hyderabad has become generous patrons of this art form. Nirmal painting is a hereditary occupation for craftsmen. Nirmal designs have distinctive floral patterns similar to Mughal arabesques. In recent paintings, the floral designs are mostly restricted to borders. The colors are sophisticated and the paintings are enclosed by golden borders. Earlier, the craftsmen used indigenous mineral and vegetable dyes for coloring the paintings. It is believed that they could even produce gold color from herbal extracts. Nowadays duco paints are used for coloring Nirmal Paintings. For making Nirmal paintings either finished teak wood or hardboard is used. The surface is well finished before painting the predefined design. Then the plaque is sprayed with Duco paint in the desired background color, the artist then paints with hand the already determined design. The quality of paintings is very high with intricate designs, rare artistry and skill giving rise to breath-taking beauty.
